An increase in 5 alpha reductase is an increase in DHT. When you increase 5 alpha reductase enzymes you increase DHT as well and it works vice versa – increasing DHT will increase 5 alpha reductase (study). The 5 alpha reductase enzymes are what convert testosterone and androstenedione into DHT.
There are a lot of ways you can increase DHT, though being lean, increasing testosterone, being on a calorie maintenance/surplus, and staying away from 5 alpha inhibitors will have the biggest impacts.
Now this may sound like bullshit, how can a man increase 5 alpha reductase and DHT naturally by 862%? Well by looking at scientific experiments and studies and combining everything that increases 5 alpha reductase and DHT in the short-term. That’ll get you around a 862% increase, depending on how lean you are, how many calories you’re eating, what your testosterone levels are, where you are in life, and even how accurate the scientific experiments and studies are.

Pine Pollen – Dose Dependent %
Pine pollen is the only natural supplement/herb that has actual androstenedione and other androgens in it.
Examine says pine pollen contains Vitamin D3 at 200ng/g (8 IU per gram) while the active hormone 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D is at 10-300ng, Testosterone (80ng/g), epitestosterone (110ng/g), and androstenedione (590ng/g).
Now the availability of these androgens in pine pollen is not known. 590ng/g of androstenedione is a good amount though. Even if a fraction of that is available for the body to use, that would equal in a lot of DHT production from 5a-androstanedione.

Load up with Creatine – 56%
Creatine is well known to increase 5 alpha reductase and DHT. There are a lot of studies and experiments done on it’s effects on DHT. One of the most popular ones found that creatine increases DHT by 56% after a week of loading.
“After 7 days of creatine loading, or a further 14 days of creatine maintenance dose, serum T levels did not change. However, levels of DHT increased by 56% after 7 days of creatine loading and remained 40% above baseline after 14 days maintenance (P < 0.001).

Sorghum – 54%
Sorghum is a grain that’s not so well known in America or Europe, but in the middle East and northern Africa sorghum is a staple grain of their diet.
This study found that sorghum significantly increases the 5-a reductase enzymes (by 54%!!).
Butea Superba Overdose – ~300%
Butea Superba is a herb commonly used in Thailand to treat erectile dysfunction.
This study found a case of hyperandrogenemia (excessive levels of androgens in the body) due to ingestion of Butea superba. The patient was a Thai single male, aged 35 years, without any underlying disease. He reported a feeling of increased sexual drive after using Butea Superba.
Laboratory investigations were performed which showed increased dihydrotestosterone (1512 pg/mL, reference value 250–990 pg/mL). Then one week after he stopped using the herb, the patient had no feeling of increased sexual drive and dihydrotestosterone had decreased to normal level.
Assuming he had a normal DHT level in the middle of the range – around 500-600 pg/ml, then his DHT level shot up to 1512 pg/ml, that would be a 3 fold increase (about 300%).

Phosphatidylcholine and Phosphatidylserine – ~250%
Phosphatidylcholines are a class of phospholipids that incorporate choline as a headgroup.
“Phosphatidylcholine increased the activity of the partially purified 5 alpha-reductase about 2.5 fold.”
“Phosphatidylserine also enhanced the activity to an extent identical for phosphatidylcholine. Phosphatidic acid and lysophosphatidylcholine were stimulatory to lesser extents.” – study.
A Few Cigarettes – ~14%
Now to be clear I’m not recommending anyone smoke cigarettes since they have so many serious health downsides. Cigarettes do increase testosterone, DHT, free testosterone, and all androgens though. The increase in overall androgens from smoking cigarettes is 10-15% in the studies and experiments out there.
A legit experiment here measured the androgen levels in 1241 randomly sampled middle-aged U.S. men.

Coffee – 57%
Coffee is one of the most abused stimulants. At least it increases testosterone and DHT though.
In this experiment 800mg of caffeine increased testosterone by 19%.
