Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is testosterone in its strongest form. It gets converted by the 5 alpha reductase from testosterone into dihydrotestosterone. Another way it gets converted is from androstenedione into 5a-androstanedione which gets converted into DHT.

You need a good base of testosterone before you start going all out on dihydrotestosterone, and here’s why you want to go all out on DHT.

Get a High Total Testosterone

Its said that about 5% of your testosterone undergoes 5 alpha reductase conversion to dihydrotestosterone. 5% is in normal men, who don’t go all out on DHT. Going all out on DHT will probably bring you at a 10-25% conversion from testosterone.

Getting lean is the echo that echoes around Anabolic Apex. Another word for lean is anti-aging. Getting and staying lean is the fucking holy grail, damn stop beating around the fucking bush and get lean, and stay lean – for a lifetime.

A fat man and dihydrotestosterone don’t click. As a rule of thumb, the fatter you are, the less dihydrotestosterone your body can produce. That’s because body fat induces aromatase activity (estrogen synthase). Aromatase is an enzyme responsible for a key step in the biosynthesis of estrogens. Aromatase is responsible for the aromatization of androgens into estrogens. Let me put it in layman’s terms for you. Aromatase is the enzyme that takes your testosterone and other androgens and turns them into estrogens. What a shitty enzyme huh?

This study concluded that the regional distribution of fat may influence the metabolism of androgens in adipose tissue, with upper body fat tending to form a lower ratio of estrogens to 5 alpha-reduced androgens than lower body fat.

This study found that aromatase inhibitors give women more muscle mass.

This study found that aromatase inhibiting supplementation at a daily dosage of 300 mg and 600 mg for eight weeks did not completely inhibit aromatase activity, yet significantly increased FT, dihydrotestosterone, and T/E.

This study gave elderly men with low testosterone an aromatase inhibitor daily for 12 weeks and results were, total testosterone significantly increased (doubled in some), and free testosterone significantly increased as well. Estrogen decreased significantly and and LH levels increased.

Getting and staying lean is super easy, you can even eat whatever your stomach desires. Its called intermittent fasting and its real great.

Lower Your Estrogen

Estrogen and DHT don’t click at all. When one increases, the other decreases. So decreasing your estrogen levels will increase DHT, and increasing your DHT will decrease estrogen levels. Estrogen increases alongside with testosterone as well, but in small quantities. Its the body’s natural homeostasis mechanism. Just make sure your estrogen is within the reference range on your blood results.

DHT is used to treat gyno aka man boobs (caused by high estrogen levels) so that should tell you something (study 1) (study 2).

The greatest ways to lower estrogen is of course getting lean, avoiding soy and other phytoestrogens, adding some aromatase inhibiting foods such as cauliflower, cruciferous vegetables, and grapes, and increasing DHT will lower your estrogen as well.

Stay Far Away from 5 Alpha Reductase Inhibitors

5 alpha reductase inhibitors – natural or not, inhibit the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. They’re found in acne-treating products, hair-restoration products, foods, fatty acids, herbs, supplements, vitamins and minerals, and a high body fat %.

This is a list of all the studied natural DHT inhibitors. Stay away from all these things.

  1. Avocados, coconut oil, and olive oil
  2. Tomatoes, watermelon, carrots, and mangoes
  3. L-lysine
  4. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), gamma linolenic acid (GLA), and polyunsaturated fat
  5. Bran
  6. DIM in high doses
  7. Zinc in high doses
  8. Most teas
  9. Some spices
  10. Almost all nuts
  11. Green tea
  12. Azelaic acid
  13. Pumpkin seeds
  14. Saw palmetto
  15. Cacumen platycladi
  16. Giant dodder
  17. Rosemary
  18. Mint and peppermint

Dihydrotestosterone Based Diet

It can get a little complicated here and slow down your process a lot. Get my custom testosterone plan and you won’t have to worry about this.

Basics to a DHT based diet…

  • Limit coconut oil, olives, avocados, olive oil, and avocado oil to a couple times a month.
  • Stay away from most monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
  • Stay away from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids that inhibit 5 alpha reductase.
  • Stay away from lycopene. Lycopene is found in foods such as tomatoes, watermelon, mangos, carrots, and more.
  • Watch your saturated/monounsaturated fat ratio, your saturated/polyunsaturated fat ratio, and your saturated/monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fat ratio. Most of your fats should be saturated fats.
  • Drop most/all nuts.
  • Drop all tea.
  • Drop most/all fish.
  • Drink coffee but cycle it.
  • Watch your protein/carb ratio.
  • Drop the brown rice, up the white rice.
  • Watch your fiber intake. Ideal range is 25-35g.
  • Consume a lot of antioxidants.
  • Fix zinc deficiency.
  • Avoid zinc in high doses.

Dihydrotestosterone Supplement Stack

The supplements listed here all work or have great potential and are well studied.

  1. Sorghum
  2. Creatine
  3. Butea Superba
  4. Pine Pollen

Sorghum – Sorghum is a grain that mainly grows in India. You can make bread with sorghum flour and it tastes damn well. What does it have to do with dihydrotestosterone? Well this study found that sorghum significantly increases the 5-a reductase enzymes (by 54%!!).

Creatine – This well known study done on college rugby players concluded that 3 weeks of creatine supplementation had some great results on dihydrotestosterone (DHT). After 7 days of creatine loading, or a further 14 days of creatine maintenance dose, serum T levels did not change. However, levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) increased by 56% after 7 days of creatine loading and remained 40% above baseline after 14 days maintenance. The ratio of DHT:T also increased by 36% after 7 days creatine supplementation and remained elevated by 22% after the maintenance dose.

Butea SuperbaThis study found a case of hyperandrogenemia (excessive levels of androgens in the body) due to ingestion of Butea superba. The patient was a Thai single male, aged 35 years, without any underlying disease.

He reported a feeling of increased sexual drive after using Butea Superba.

Laboratory investigations were performed which showed increased DHT (1512 pg/mL, reference value 250–990 pg/mL). Then one week after he stopped using the herb, the patient had no feeling of increased sexual drive and DHT had decreased to normal level.

The guy used a high dose (study doesn’t say exact number) to get way over the DHT reference range, but still impressive results.

Try a Butea Superba extract here, who knows maybe you’ll experience uncontrollable sex drive.

Pine Pollen – Pine pollen is the only natural supplement/herb that has actual androstenedione and other androgens in it.

Examine says pine pollen contains Vitamin D3 at 200ng/g (8 IU per gram) while the active hormone 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D is at 10-300ng, Testosterone (80ng/g), epitestosterone (110ng/g), and androstenedione (590ng/g).

These 2 studies confirm this (study 1) (study 2).

Now the availability of these androgens in pine pollen is not known. 590ng/g of androstenedione is a good amount though. Even if a fraction of that is available for the body to use, that would equal in a lot of DHT production from 5a-androstanedione.

This study says – pine pollen is an attractive agent with potential to reduce aging and attenuate age-related diseases in humans.

This study says pine pollen has some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in the body.

Improve Insulin Sensitivity

Insulin increases the expression of 5α-reductase type 1 mRNA via Akt signalling (study).

Increased insulin sensitivity = more insulin = increases the expression of 5a-reductase type 1 mRNA = increased 5-alpha reductase activity = more DHT production.

On top of that, improved insulin sensitivity lowers SHBG, resulting in not just more DHT, but more free DHT (bioavailable DHT) as well.

This study studied 70 healthy weight-stable men with body mass index (BMI) from 20.7-94 and restudied 17 of them during diet-induced weight loss.

Fasting serum insulin levels in the weight-stable men showed a positive linear correlation with BMI, increasing 1 microU/mL per unit increase in BMI. SHBG levels in the weight-stable men showed a negative linear correlation with BMI, decreasing 0.2 nmol/L per unit increase in BMI.

The study concludes – insulin has been shown in vitro to decrease the synthesis of SHBG. Insulin controls SHBG synthesis in vivo.

This study says – in vivo, insulin is capable of stimulating testosterone production and, simultaneously, of inhibiting SHBG concentrations in both normal weight and obese men.

The ways to improve insulin sensitivity…

  1. Intermittent fasting
  2. A low body fat %
  3. Workout and stay active
  4. Cinnamon

Intermittent fastingThis study says – recent experimental studies have elucidated some of the metabolic mechanisms involved with IF. Animal models have shown positive changes in glucose (lower plasma glucose and insulin levels) and in lipid metabolism (reduced visceral fat tissue and increased plasma adiponectin level), and an increased resistance to stress.

This experiment is the first in humans to show that intermittent fasting increases insulin-mediated glucose uptake rates, and the findings are compatible with the thrifty gene concept.

This study says – dietary weight loss, with or without exercise, significantly improved insulin resistance. Older women derived as much benefit as did the younger postmenopausal women.

Workout and stay activeThis study says – Insulin resistance was improved by 25% going from no exercise to 60 minutes of exercise per day. It improved 50% from no exercise to 120 minutes of exercise. In addition to the more vigorous types of exercise, there was a trend for higher insulin sensitivity even doing light exercise such as walking, but not a significant one.

This study says – a single bout of exercise can increase insulin sensitivity for at least 16 hours post exercise in healthy as well as NIDDM subjects. It is concluded that physical training can be considered to play an important, if not essential role in the treatment and prevention of insulin insensitivity.

This study says a workout can increase insulin and improve insulin sensitivity lasting for up to 48 hours after the workout.

CinnamonThis study says – in healthy normal-weight adults, cinnamon reduces blood glucose concentration and enhances insulin sensitivity.

This study showed that cinnamon powder (Cinnamomum cassia), taken over a 40-day period, reduced mean fasting serum glucose (18–29%), triglyceride (23–30%), LDL cholesterol (7–27%), and total cholesterol (12–26%) levels.

This study concluded – chromium and polyphenols from cinnamon improve insulin sensitivity.

    Comprehensive guide. I have eaten some shit with some pumpkin seed extract, saw palmetto and lycopene within. I didnt know they are within that pills, daily for 5 days. Now whant to undo all that staff. What should i do? How to flash out that shit?
